I established the Southpoint Osteopathic Centre and the Southpoint Wholistic Health Centre in 1994. I have been practising in the Sutherland Shire since 1983. I graduated from the British College of Naturopathy and Osteopathy in London in 1980. After 5 years of training in London I returned home to Sydney in 1981. Between 1982 and 1988 I held undergraduate teaching positions at the NSW College of Osteopathy, Pacific College of Osteopathic Medicine (which I founded with Dr A. Burton) and at the International Colleges of Osteopathy (ICO), Sydney. I have given a number of postgraduate lectures, assisted USA visiting faculty in Osteopathic seminars, acted as examiner for the NSW Chiropractic and Osteopathic Registration Board, was chair of the Postgraduate Committee for the United Osteopathic Physicians Guild and the head Librarian for the Australian Osteopathic Association which I helped develop.
During my 27 years of practice I have continued studying. In 1986 I was awarded a certificate in Bach Flower Remedies, in 1988 I was awarded a "Fellowship in the Science of Osteopathy" by the ICO, by 1995 I had completed a 3 year course in Botanical Medicine at Nature Care College, Sydney, and in 1997 I was awarded a Graduate Certificate in Osteopathic Paediatrics by the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne.
My interest in Cranial Osteopathy started in 1985, but I did not start to receive formal training until 1988. Since then I have completed numerous postgraduate courses with the Sutherland Cranial Teaching Foundation (SCTF) and hundreds of hours of private study in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. The SCTF is an educational body dedicated and committed to teaching the work of Dr. Sutherland in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field. Dr. Sutherland founded the SCTF in the early 1950's, its sole purpose being to promote the work to the rest of the osteopathic profession, as well as to the medical and dental professions. The SCTF of Australia and New Zealand is affiliated with the SCTF of USA, and teaches its courses in Osteopathy in the Cranial Field (OCF) in Australia and New Zealand.
After a 5 year apprenticeship with the SCTF of ANZ, I was first graduated to faculty in 1995 and in 1996 I was invited to become a member of the Board of Trustees. My interest in the Cranial Field has helped me understand more about how the stresses of every day life including injuries and trauma, can create strains in the physical body and also affect the mento-emotional habitus of patients. It has also opened a whole new way of looking at infant and childhood afflictions and how to treat them. The treatment of infants and children using OCF is very effective and gentle. One of the most rewarding experiences in practice is to see "bent twigs" come right. The foundation for health starts at this early age. The contributions of Dr. Sutherland have been a true blessing to mankind. This is the reason I offer the first consultation and treatment to infants under 6 weeks old free of charge.
In my practice I specialise in the practice of Osteopathy in the Cranial Field, because I have seen the benefits that can be achieved with very little risk of trauma to my patients. Also, the healing taking place is from within the patient and not directed from the outside. The benefits of the treatment also last longer and the body is given a guiding hand in helping itself resolve the patterns formed by injury, disease and trauma.
I use the other modalities I am qualified in to complement this specialty. I love my work and I am always trying to learn more so I may both grow within myself and to help my patients. My other passions in life are surfing and motor bike riding with my friends, music, walking with my wife Claire, and Thai Chi/Qi Gong. My dedications are to my family and friends, my patients and the SCTF of ANZ.
Testimonials
“ I’ve had 10 years of jaw pain and seen everyone you could think of with no results at all...doctors, dental surgeons, neurologists, chiropractors, facial surgeons, physiotherapists...George’s approach discovered something that the others had never noticed...now the difference is unbelievable, I don’t have to wear my splint anymore and I have less pain all month than I used to have every week.”
Pat Fox
“My ankle was totally useless at the start of this year, and after my second operation, it was even worse than before. The Sunday after my first treatment It felt really good, I had so much more freedom...honestly, it’s just incredible...it’s absolutely amazing, there is no other explanation for it!”
